The Confined Water session is the pool-skills
section of the training. These can be done in a swimming pool, or
similar area like a shallow lagoon or shallow springs. Think of this as
the "bunny slope", where we take things nice and slow and make sure you
enjoy the new feeling of breathing underwater. During the pool training,
you will learn about how the equipment functions, and the skills you
need to master to swim comfortably underwater. You'll learn common
practices like clearing water out of your mask, how to properly use the
fins, hand signals to communicate with your dive partner underwater,
etc. You'll also learn emergency procedures like using your buddy's
spare regulator to breathe or how to release a leg cramp and how to tow
a tired diver back to the boat or shore.
The Open Water portion of the class is where we
actually suit up and go SCUBA diving! Yeah!! Depending on the location
you select for your course, we could be diving in the freshwater springs
in Crystal River, or in the beautiful waters of the Florida Keys. Either
way, you will be doing four scuba dives, accompanied by your PADI
Instructor. During the dives, you will demonstrate the skills you have
learned in the confined water section of the course. Each dive will
consist of a skills portion and an underwater tour. Once all of the
students have correctly demonstrated the required skills, we cruise
around, look at fish and get comfortable with our buoyancy and
underwater breathing. These certification dives range in depth from 20
feet to 60 feet depending on which training dives they are and what
location we are diving in.
